Her: “You’re fat, ugly, opinionated and friendless,, so get over yourself.”
Me: “You forgot can’t dance, can’t sing, snores, flatulent, irreverent, arthritic, drives the speed limit even when people tailgate him in the slow lane, is very aware of his faults and doesn’t hide from them and doesn’t care what random people on the internet thinks of him. wink emoticon

Background: She was the photographer at a wedding and ranted because a rather pregnant bride wore white. My opinion was that she was paid to be a wedding photographer and not a fashion critic and that someone paying for an event can wear anything that they like to that event. Things went downhill from there, and apparently that made me part of what is wrong with this country.

I thought that people not minding their own business was a bigger problem, but, what do I know?

10 Things

10 random things about me… because some jerk (or jerkette browbeat me into it):

1. I’m a hugger, but I rarely initiate a hug.
2. People either like me or hate me, but the ones that hate me usually do so because of my reaction to something they said or did.
3. If someone doesn’t like me, I won’t lose a minute of sleep over it, life’s too short.
4. Most of the jokes I know are ones I probably can’t actually tell anyone…
5. I’d rather help build up someones ego than help prop up an ego that’s already overgrown.
6. It’s easier for me to find something I like about someone than something I dislike.
7. Will Rogers never met a man (person) he didn’t like, I’ve found them, but never really found someone worth the trouble of actually hating, not worth my time.
8. If I’m looking at you, odds are I’m thinking of the bests ways to take your picture. If I’m looking at you and smiling, I’ve figured it out.
9. Most people that think they’ve seen me mad have only seen me irritated, irritated is bad enough, you wouldn’t like to see me angry. (apologies to Bruce Banner for the misquote)
10. I have a ridiculous amount of patience for things that interest me, and not very much at all for things that don’t, which is why I can spend long hours working on the little details in pictures of people, and can spend up to an entire minute looking at a picture of a building.

Tim’s Plan (or vague ideas) for Addressing Student Debt

Tim’s Plan (or vague ideas) for Addressing Student Debt

– Any college that accepts government backed student loans can only charge a set tuition rate, rather like how doctors get billed by HMOs, the doctor may send a bill for $100, but since they belong to the network, they’re only going to receive $50. Colleges that don’t like being paid a lesser amount can refuse to accept government backed student loans. If this means that only state colleges see federally backed loan money, then more expensive schools will discover the effects of supply and demand and eventually their tuition rates (which have skyrocketed past most of the rest of the economy, double medical costs even) will have to drop or they’ll have to stick to recruiting only rich kids and hope they get enough to cover the budget, while state schools grow.

– Student loan interest rates are set high enough to cover administrative costs, and no higher, if this means rates are a fraction of a percent, so be it.

– Part of the student loan plan application should list the degree being sought, and the average incomes for this degree, and the percent employed in these fields after graduation, and it should list a schedule of payments and average living expenses to see if the degree will support the loan.

– Students going into shortage fields deemed essential, such as maybe education, health or engineering would see a further tuition decrease, and lock the student into a major.

Me: “I’ll rephrase the question, what kind of modeling are you hoping to do?”
Her: “like i said, boobs!”
Me: “Who’s on first?”
Her: “what?”
Me: “… <.< Sorry, disregard that, being random.”
Her: “k”
Me: “Alrighty then, I understand that you want your boobs to feature prominently in pictures taken of you, but what sort of modeling are you going to try and work into? Fashion, pin-up, lingerie, something else?”
Her: “something else?”
Me: Well, I asked for that, didn’t I? smile emoticon Okay, describe a shot that you’d like someone to take of you?”
Her: “face down to under my boobs.”
Me: “So, head shots and portraits?”
Her: “i geuss”
Me: Okay. Well, I guess the next obvious question is how do you want to display your boobs?”
Her: “bras langeray and bare i geuss”
Me: Well, I can’t help you with bare, I don’t work with bare models. I’m sure you can find another photographer that meets your needs.”
Her: “don’t you want to see a pix befor you say no?”
Me: “No, I’m good. Where are you at?”
Her: “boston”
Me: “Boston like in Mass?”
Her “theres only 1 boston! wink emoticon
Me: “No, there are several actually. I thought when you checked my portfolio you said you didn’t live that far from us and that’s why you were interested. Boston is about 2,700 miles from me. Tell you what, I’m clicking off now, I suggest you start with the phone book for the greater Boston area, and have a wicked nice day.”

[bails from conversation]

Okay, since Allen Funt is dead, I’m going to assume that this wasn’t candid camera. But, if I find out that somebody I know decided to make my head explode… that’s a paddlin’!

The Beauty Scam

Categories: Philosophy, Rant, Tags: , ,

Once you get used to the idea that the perception of beauty is managed by companies using things like photo manipulation and unrealistic standards to spread the message “buy our shit or you’re ugly,” you actually stop caring what “they” think is beautiful and start learning to live happily in your own body. Beauty is who you are, not who they can manipulate you into being.
